Our Music
Nurture each other in our spiritual journeys.
The professional musicians on staff at CUUC seek to provide a spiritual dimension in worship and community life. Since 1990, the music program as a whole has been overseen by Music Director Adam Kent, and since 2001 our Choir has been directed by Lisa N. Meyer, currently assisted by Choir Pianist Georgianna Pappas.
Our musical programming regularly includes works by composers of varied racial, religious, and national backgrounds, and compositions from popular and classical traditions. We are blessed to have received a substantial endowment from the estate of a longtime member, which enables us to invite guest performers on a regular basis. These opportunities for "special Sunday music" help us to enrich our regular program of solo piano and choral music with chamber works, jazz, and examples of world music.
CUUC is fortunate to count a number of gifted musicians among its members, and volunteerism is an important facet of our musical programming. Our Choir members are all CUUC congregants, although a small budget exists for professional section support on occasion. In addition to a music committee that plans events and supports the music staff, there is a new Musicians Group. This group was formed to provide a supportive environment and structure in which musicians of all ages and in all genres at CUUC can encourage one another in their musical endeavors, with the ultimate goal of forming more collaborations and enriching adult and children’s worship even more.
